The above operation of cutting slots in beams in their entire length has been used by me in a number of occasions to increase the loading of the timber beams so as to form Flitch beams. This technique is particularly useful in situations where it is not possible to cut through the depth of the beam so as not to see a visible slot on the underside of the beam.
